Something happens at night. Any point of light seems larger than it is, drawing the eye toward warmth and security as the dark deepens. The actual point of light may be very small, like a star or distant radio tower, but they seem magnified in person, perhaps tapping into our ancient past, when fire could mean the difference between life and death. Whatever the history, I find myself cheered and comforted when I see any sort of light in the darkness. Something happens at night.
