I was staying with a friend this fall, and had the chance to sit and enjoy her beautiful view of the neighboring lake. The sun lit up a distant stand of autumn trees, and reflections mirrored the dramatic and beautiful sky. Something about water makes me stop, calm down and take in the beauty of our world. I wonder if it some deep, dna-level acknowledgement of our need for water. Or if it is a pre-birth memory of being formed and held in water until delivery brought us into air. Whatever its source, I am drawn to water, and take joy in sitting down to watch light play across its surface. Looking at this, I can remember the smell of the muddy shore, and the sound of wind through the pines. Shortly after this, the beach was filled with friends and laughter as people enjoyed the lake after a small wedding ceremony. Autumn joy.
