Hooray, the Father Hugo rose is blooming! Hundreds of small yellow flowers are displayed on long arcing canes. These delicate single flowers have a light fragrance that reminds me of cloves. I painted these flowers from a still life I set up in my studio. I used spotlights and cardboard shields to throw the back of the still life into shadow and create drama.
