Carrion birds appear on the heels of death, sometimes called nature’s clean up crew. I think of them as psychopomps. I saw one on my last walk and the moment was palpable. Each ruffle of its shroud of feathers called to mind every medicine carrier I’ve ever met. The thing they’ve had in common is having reckoned, to one degree or another, with death and identity. I believe we all carry medicine, even if we’re young in our journey or don't know our impact, we have something to offer those who walk after us.
